Built during the late period of Kangxi’s reign, Nine Continents in Peace is one of the 40 sceneries of Yuanmingyuan. In the early years of Yongzheng’s regin, royal residential area was built, with water around. They came back and forth through bridges or by boat. This scenery was one of the earliest sceneries built in Yuanmingyuan.
Nine Continents in Peace can be divided into three rows approximately, i.e. the middle row, the east row and the west row. There are a series of courtyards between these three rows. In the middle row, Yuanmingyuan Court, Honoring Three Selflessnesses Court, Nine Continents in Peace Court are located from south to north. Yuanmingyuan Court was once the primary court of the Vassal State Favored Garden of Yongzheng. The Honoring Three Selflessnesses Court was the sacrificial court, with gods enshrined and worshiped.
In 1929, a large martyr monument for “March 18 Event” was built in the west of the front courtyard of the Honoring Three Selflessnesses Court.
