Built around early years of Yongzheng’s reign, Wonderland on Fanghu Islet is one of the 40 sceneries of Yuanmingyuan. The Penglai Fairyland in legend, as a fantasy realm of immortality, has been always the fairyland that emperors pursued. Emperor Yongzheng ordered craftsmen rugged large stones to construct three islets with different sizes in the center of Fuhai Lake: the main islet in the middle with two smaller supplementary islets, to represent the three fairy mountains in the East Sea. Courts, pavilions, stages and multi-storied pavilions were built in these islets as well.
